FAQ
How long does shingle roofing last?
While most brands for shingle roofing has shingles rated for 40 years they generally last from 17-25 years for architectural shingles.
Some things can change the lifespan of your roofs longevity such as sun exposure, pitch, colour of shingles for heat build up, multiple layers of shingles, improper ventilation etc.
At CT Roofing Solutions we always recommend to not wait until leaks. Its always better to plan ahead and budget for a roof replacement after noticing deterioration of shingles.
When should you replace your shingle roof?
At CT Roofing Solutions we recommend to get an inspection once you notice shingles deteriorating. Then to start budgeting and planning on a new roof. Usually I would recommend around the 17 year mark to the low 20 year mark is a good time to look into replacement (usually you will notice the south facing side with be in the worst condition).
What should I look for when hiring a shingle roofing contractor?
At CT Roofing Solutions we recommend to ask for insurance and a WSIB clearance slip.
Always make sure the company does minimum of 3 feet of ice and water shield along eaves edges and in valleys and synthetic underlayment. They should have all new materials such as rolls, vents, plumbing boots, shingles, caps, eave starter etc. If they do not use all new materials then I wouldn't believe in their warranty. Also, I would not recommend the cheapest roofer. Usually that would be for a reason. Always remember you get what you pay for.
